Bangladesh make it to 259/5 after Shakib's fifty

Bangladesh made it to 259 without any further loss of wickets as Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad saw out the rest of the third session on Day 1 after Mushfiqur Rahim's wicket with a 69-run sixth-wicket stand.

Captain Shakib Al Hasan remained unbeaten on 55 with a calm and controlled innings that consisted of just a singel boundary. Mahmudullah Riyad looked nervy at times but held on to his wickets as Tigers will now look to score as many runs as possible given their tall batting order.

Shermon Lewis cleaned up Mushfiqur Rahim's stumps with an in-swinger as the Bangladesh batsman fell after reaching the landmark of 4,000 Test runs.

There may have been some kind of justification in Bangladesh not playing any frontline pacers but West Indies' reliance on their own pace bowlers has paid dividends. Mahmudullah Riyad and Shakib are at the crease now as Bangladesh crossed the 200-run mark.

Bishoo removes Mithun and Shadman

Devandra Bishoo struck twice in back-to-back overs to bag the wickets of Mohammad Mithun and debutant Shadman Islam.

Mithun misread the length a went for a pull but the googly from the leg-spinner crashed onto his stumps. Debutant Shadman was looking good but misread the line of the delivery and was trapped in-front of the wicket. Mithun and Shadman had contributed with a 64-run partnership for the third-wicket and Bangladesh now have their two most experienced campaigner at the crease in the form of Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan.

Shadman hits debut fifty, Bangladesh 120/2

Opener Shadman Islam hit fifty off 147 deliveries in his debut Test while also clinching the record for most balls faced by a Bangladesh opener in debut Test.

It has been a very watchful innings from 23-year old as he hit four boundaries in his knock so far. The opener took over from former Bangladesh opener Javed Omar, who had faced 138 deliveries to hit 62 in Test debut against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo in 2001. He also became just the sixth Bangladesh opener to hit fifty on Test debut.

Lunch: Bangladesh 87/2, Mominul falls before lunch

Kemar Roach induced a rash shot out of nowhere from the usually calm and composed Mominul Haque as Bangladesh lost their second wicket before the players went to lunch on Day 1.

Opener Shadman, who is making his Test debut has already shown his Test mettle during his unbeaten 116-ball 36 so far. He has already overtaken Tamim Iqbal with most ball faced in first innings of Test debut as an opener for Bangladesh and well on course to reach Javed Omar's record. Tamim had faced 88 deliveries in the first innings of his maiden Test when Bangladesh played New Zealand away in 2008. Omar holds the record for most balls faced in debut innings with 138 balls faced.

Soumya falls to Chase

Bangladesh 42/1; FoWs: 1-42 (Soumya Sarkar, 15.3 ov)

After a solid opening partnership of 42 runs, the newly formed opening partnership between debutant Shadman Islam and Soumya Sarkar was broken as the latter fell to Roston Chase.

Soumya had been pretty patient in the morning session as Bangladesh looking for a series sweep, made a good start. The left-hander went for a expansive drive and nicked the chase delivery to the man at first slip as Bangladesh lost their first wicket.

Bangladesh win toss and elect to bat

Bangladesh have won the toss and elected to bat first in the second Test at Dhaka. Mustafizur Rahman was a peripheral figure in the first Test, bowling only four overs but this time around he has not even been picked as Tigers go with four spinners but zero pacers. Liton Das will take the gloves with Mushfiqur Rahim playing just as a batsman.

It is the first time in Bangladesh's cricket history that they have lined up without a frontline seamer.
