Mushy reaches four thousand Test runs

Bangladesh's dependable batsman Mushfiqur Rahim reached the milestone of 4000 Test runs during the second Test against West Indies today at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

The right-hander was eight runs short of the landmark when he came out to bat after the fall of Shadman Islam's wicket. Mushfiqur fell after reaching the landmark as Shermon Lewis cleaned up his stumps with a fuller length delivery that swung in after pitching. Mushfiqur Rahim is the second Bangladesh batsman to have accomplished the feat of scoring four thousand Test runs. Tamim Iqbal, who is missing the Test series against the Windies due to an injury, was the first Bangladesh batsman to accomplish the feat.

Mushfiqur had broken numerous records during Bangladesh's second Test against Zimbabwe when he struck an unbeaten 219 -- the highest knock played by a Bangladesh batsman in Test cricket. An injury during a net session had almost ruled him out of the second Test but Mushfiqur, resilient as ever, overcame the injury to ensure his participation. Shakib Al Hasan, who is currently at the crease is the third-highest run-getter in Tests for Bangladesh with 3747 runs.
