No Gayle, Lewis for Windies in tri-series against Bangladesh, Ireland
West Indies cricket board named the squad for the tri-series against hosts Ireland and Bangladesh in May and explosive openers Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis were both left out of the squad as the teams prepare for the upcoming World Cup in England.
Windies Test wicket-keeper Shane Dowrich will make his ODI debut in the series. Unavailability of players due to IPL matches was one of the reason for this squad not being the one for the World Cup.
“They have selected a squad to Ireland that allows a slightly wider pool of players to get 50-over experience in UK conditions which I think is very important. This is not the World Cup squad, as a number of players are not available for this series as they are still participating in the IPL,” said director of cricket Jimmy Adams.
West Indies Tri-Series Squad:
Jason Holder (Captain), John Campbell, Darren Bravo, Shai Hope, Sheldon Cottrell, Shannon Gabriel, Kemar Roach, Sunil Ambris, Raymon Reifer, Fabian Allen, Ashley Nurse, Roston Chase, Shane Dowrich, Jonathan Carter
