Soumya wants to maintain T20 approach

Soumya Sarkar, who made a return to the Bangladesh squad for the upcoming T20 series against Sri Lanka, having been excluded for the ODI tri-series and Test series, says that he wants to maintain his T20 approach.

Soumya was dropped following the South Africa series as the Tigers lost seven matches across all three formats but the left-hander showed his confidence in the shortest version as he played quickfire knocks in both T20Is to give Bangladesh positive starts and the left-hander hinted today that he would not be changing his approach.

"If I can keep performing like I did in the last few matches then I will be able to bat with confidence. I want to keep my approach," the opener replied when asked about his approach.

He also suggested that he is not looking to perform in T20Is so that he could make a comeback in the other formats.

"I am not thinking in that way as if I had thought like that then things could have been different before as well. I am not thinking like that. I have two T20 matches to look forward to and I will try to perform so that I can at least remain in the T20 side."

Soumya has often fallen to soft dismissals, but all his last six T20 innings gave the Tigers positive starts.

Soumya averages just over 39 in his last six innings in the format with scores of 44 (27), 47 (31), 34 (17), 29 (20), 42 (28), 39 (26) and with a strike rate of 157.7 and the batsman suggested that the Tigers can do well if they focus on the T20Is and not think about the tri-series and Test series.

"If you come to T20 still thinking of the ODIs and the Tests then of course it will have an effect. If you think about the T20 format where we have lots of new faces in the side, who did not feature in the ODIs and the T20s, I don't think they will be bothered about what happened in the Tests and ODIs," Soumya said.
