Tamim disappointed at not having turned 50s into more 100s

Tamim Iqbal is dissappointed not to have turned more of his 50s into centuries.

Over the course of 11 years Tamim Iqbal has become the highest run-getter for Bangladesh, amassing 5,934 runs in 176 matches at an average of 35.11. Tamim has 40 ODI fifties, the highest among Bangladesh batsmen. The opener also holds the record for highest number of ODI tons among Bangladesh batsmen with Shakib in second position with seven tons to his name. Tamim Iqbal also reached 11,000 runs in all three formats combined during the match against Sri Lanka, where Bangladesh won by their largest-margin in ODIs.

Healthy competition urges Tamim, Shakib to do better

Tamim, despite having all these records under his belt, expressed disappointment at the fact that he was not able to score more tons despite having so many half-centuries to his name.

"It's true that I feel bad about it myself," Tamim reflected upon his number of tons. "I should have scored more tons. I would like to take the number of tons to double digit as quickly as possible.

"Double digit looks good and sounds good as well.

He said that it was unsatisfactory to not have managed to convert more of his half-tons into tons.

"At the end of the day I have played in more than 170 matches and scored 40 half centuries.

"Judging by that, it is indeed disappointing and I should have struck more centuries"

Tamim struck twin 84-run knocks in both matches of the tri-nation tournament so far. Zimbabwe's total of 170 all-out did not allow Tamim a big enough target to go on and score a ton as he remained not out on 84 during Tigers' first game. Tamim was then dismissed for 84 against the Lankans in the second match as century beckoned for the left-hander.

The opener however chose to see the positive aspects of his innings against Sri Lanka. The opener was happy that he did not throw his wicket away when Lankan medium pacers targeted him with short balls in order to stifle his shot-making.

"It's not about being unlucky since I feel that in the second match I started really slow. What was heartening about my batting is the fact that I did not throw my wicket away. I was waiting for the time and when the time came, I capitalized by targeting one bowler. I thought I paced my innings pretty well. Unfortunately, I got out to a decent delivery but at least I did not throw my wicket away and I am so happy about that," Tamim concluded
