Cricket mourns Arnab’s passing
The Bangladesh cricket fraternity was shaken and shocked by news yesterday of the passing of Arnab Majumder Dipayan, a promising sports reporter of bdnews24.com.
Arnab breathed his last yesterday afternoon at the age of 27. An ever-present, soft-spoken presence at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Arnab was a popular and devoted reporter.
His knowledge of sport, and especially cricket, was extensive and he was generous to a fault. An example of his knowledge and generosity came a day before his premature demise when he was the one who announced to everyone -- his joy at a rare cricket stat trumping the need to be the first to report it -- in the press box that Shahid Afridi had just been dismissed for his 100th duck.
The news of Arnab’s death was put up on the big screen at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur during the evening BPL match between Cumilla Warriors and Dhaka Platoon.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and colleagues.
