Approach in West Indies key for direct World Cup qualification: Joty

Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana Joty emphasised on approach ahead of the West Indies series as the Tigresses vie for direct qualification for the ICC Women's World Cup.

Bangladesh, currently seventh on ICC Women's Championships standings with 19 points, need two wins in the upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies, starting on January 20 in St Kitts.

"We have a good idea of how the wicket can be in St Kitts as the men's team played there recently. The last time I played there was in 2018 and most of the players from then are not here now. Getting the job done [for direct qualification] will depend on how the team approaches the series; they can see it as just another series or a ticket to the World Cup. The way things are going, you can tell that everyone is focused, more than 100 percent, because none of us wants to play the qualifiers," Joty told reporters on Saturday.

"We have one target which is to get the four points and qualify directly for the World Cup. We have no confusion. The ODI team has been playing dominating cricket in the past few series. A lot is being said about the different equations but I want to give a clear message to the team which is that they have to play good cricket. We are more focused on winning matches, the qualification equations will come after that."
The second and third ODIs will be played on January 22 and 25 and will be followed by three T20Is January 28, 30, and February 1. The Tigresses will leave for the West Indies on January 13.
