BCB likely to make a decision regarding Shakib during this BPL
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed has said that the board is likely to make a decision regarding Shakib Al Hasan's Champions Trophy participation during the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
The BCB president met members of the media at the press box during the second BPL fixture on Friday and was asked about Shakib's possibilities.
The upcoming Champions Trophy is set to be played in a hybrid model in Pakistan and the UAE, and when his attention was drawn to the fact that the Champions Trophy is not at home, meaning security will not be an issue, Faruque informed that he would sit with selectors soon.
"The Champions trophy is not at home. It's a valid question. I think during this BPL we will sit with the selectors and take a decision," he concluded.
''I will try to bring back Shakib from my position, one more time. But you guys know, the whole thing is up to the government,'' Faruque told reporters.
Shakib has not played for the Tigers since he was unable to come to the country to play what would have been his farewell Test against South Africa last October.
Faruque said that there were plenty of boxes still to be ticked, from discussions and arrangements with the government to Shakib's own fitness. But he did not rule out Shakib's chances.
"Shakib hasn't retired yet. If he had retired by now, then we could say that he was not available anymore. He has some issues where I cannot do much about it. If the government can solve the issues then there will be a possibility. Then his fitness, and mental state needs to be looked at and after that selection panel will think about it," the BCB president remarked.
