Bowlers, Tamim bring Barishal back to winning ways
A disciplined bowling performance by Fortune Barishal bowlers which was followed by Tamim Iqbal's unbeaten 86 off 48 balls, saw the franchise return to winning ways as they beat Durbar Rajshahi by seven wickets in their first game of Sylhet phase today.
Asked to bat first, Rajshahi top-order gave them a solid platform for a big finish as Jishan Alam (38), Mohammad Haris (22) and Yasir Ali (37) all made meaningful contributions to take them to 133-3 after the end of the 15th over.
However, Barishal bowlers didn't allow Rajshahi to cash in, conceding only 35 runs in the last five overs before Barishal settled for 168-4 in their stipulated overs.
Rajshahi skipper Anamul Haque, who had already scored two fifties in the tournament, played a very slow innings of 39 off 35 balls before he was castled by Baishal's Pakistan speedster Shaheen Shah Afridi (2-20) in the penultimate over.
In a batting paradise in Sylhet, the target of 169 runs didn't cause any problem in Barishal's run chase as apart from Tamim's innings featuring 11 fours and three sixes, Mushfiqur Rahim (34 not out) and Kyle Mayers (24) also made notable contributions to steer them to victory with 15 balls to spare.
Barishal earlier had to exclude Najmul Hossain Shanto after Mushfiqur played the game only as a batter.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Pritom Kumar replaced Shanto in the playing XI and he performed the job behind the wicket in place of Mushfiqur, who sustained a hand injury during his side's last game against Rangpur Riders in Dhaka which they lost by eight wickets.
The win against Rajshahi helped Barishal move to the third place in the points table with four points from three games while Rajshahi remained on fifth spot with one win from four games.
