Ganguly wants to shake up BCCI’s image

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who is poised to take over as the president of the country's cricket board as nominations close Monday for elections to the game's wealthiest and most powerful body, said that he wanted to shake-up BCCI’s image.

“I am happy with the appointment because this is the time when BCCI’s image has got hampered and it’s a great opportunity for me to do something. Whether you are elected unopposed or otherwise, it’s a big responsibility because it is the biggest organization in the world of cricket. India is a powerhouse. It will be a challenge,” Ganguly said.

While he has led India on the field and garnered admiration for his captaincy, Ganguly was emotionally intrigued by how the board room politics worked.

"I didn't know I would be the President when I came down. You (reporter) asked me and I told you it's Brijesh [Patel]  and when I went up and I came to know it has changed. I have never been in a BCCI election and I never knew it worked like this," he told PTI.

Ganguly will, however, have to go in for a cooling off period from July 2020 under the new rules. He has been holding posts in Cricket Association of Bengal for the past five years where he currently serves as president and an administrator can only serve six years at a trot.

Does he regret that the term will be only for nine months?

"Yes, that's the rule and we will deal with it,” he said.
