Jishan Alam's 53-ball century gave NCL T20 a flying start as Sylhet Division posted 205 for four in the first match of Bangladesh's new domestic T20 competition in Sylhet on Wednesday. Jishan's ton however was trumped by his teammate from his U-19 days Ariful Islam, who hit a 46-ball 94 for Dhaka with six fours and eight sixes to chase down Sylhet's score and ensure a six-wicket win.

In other matches, Khulna beat Rajshahi thanks to U-19 Asia Cup winning side's captain Azizul Hakim's 53 off 31. Tamim Iqbal meanwhile failed to inspire Chattogram in their five-wicket loss against Rangpur, scoring 13 off 10 in the tournament's first day's fixture.

Naim Sheikh's 35-ball 65 ensured a 31-run win for Dhaka Metro over Barishal in another game.

Jishan, son of former national team player Jahangir Alan and a recent graduate from the under-19s, played a stroke-filled innings to light up the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Opening the batting with Tawfique Khan, Jishan smashed four fours and 10 sixes in his Herculean knock before being bowled by left-arm spinner Najmul Islam.

The highlight of Jishan's innings was the 32 runs he took in an over from off-spinner Arafat Sunny, including five consecutive sixes.

Tawifique (29), Amite Hasan (26) and Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby (30 not out) ensured the hosts got a sizeable total on the board to defend at the batting-friendly Sylhet venue.

Najmul was the pick of the bowlers for Dhaka with two for 28 runs.

In the other match at the Sylhet Academy Ground, Dhaka Metro posted 192 for four against Barishal Division.
