India batter Virat Kohli smashed his 48th ODI ton to guide India to a comfortable seven-wicket win over Bangladesh in their World Cup encounter in Pune on Thursday. 

Kohli put away six fours and four sixes for his unbeaten 97-ball 103 and was aptly aided by openers Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma who scored 53 and 48 respectively as India registered their fourth straight win of the tournament by chasing down Bangladesh's 256-run target in 41.3 overs. 

Bangladesh off-spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz scalped two wickets for 47 runs, while Hasan Mahmud picked up one.

Gill departs after scoring fifty 

India opener Shubman Gill departed after scoring a 54-ball 53 to leave India two down for 132 runs in the 20th over in the chase of Bangladesh's 256 for eight in an ICC World Cup encounter in Pune on Thursday.

Gill came down the wicket and tried to loft it over deep midwicket but he couldn't get enough on it as Mahmudullah took a smart catch right the edge of the boundary.

This brought Shreyas Iyer to the crease, with Virat Kohli unbeaten on 34 runs off 25 balls at the other end.

Hasan Mahmud gets Rohit with a bouncer 

Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud managed to put a stop to the one-way traffic caused by the India openers as he dismissed the dangerous Rohit Sharma with a bouncer in the 13th over to give the Tigers their first breakthrough.

This brought Virat Kohli to crease, with Shubman Gill unbeaten on 40 off 36 balls at the other end as India were one down for 103 after the 13th over.

India off to a great start 

India openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill got off to a solid start as they amassed 68 runs in the first 11 overs while chasing Bangladesh's 256 for eight in the ICC Cricket World Cup in Pune on Thursday.

Rohit hit seven fours and a six for his 37-ball 41, while Gill scored a steady 29-ball 27 laced with two fours and as many sixes.
 

Liton, Tanzid fifties help Bangladesh post 256-8 against India

Bangladesh openers Liton Das and Tanzid Tamim hit fifties to help their side post 256 for eight against India in a World Cup encounter in Pune on Thursday. 

Liton scored an 82-ball 66, while Tanzid smashed a 43-ball 51 as the duo put together a 93-run opening stand, Bangladesh's highest in a World Cup match, which the rest of the batters failed to capitalise on.

In-form batter Mushfiqur Rahim contributed with a 46-ball 38 before he was caught at backward point by Ravindra Jadeja and Mahmudullah Riyad put away three fours and as many sixes for his 36-ball 46 in the latter stage of the innings but was castled by a Jasprit Bumrah yorker that crashed onto the root of the middle-stump.

Bumrah, Jadeja, and Mohammad Siraj picked up two wickets each. 

After opting to bat first, Bangladesh openers, Liton and Tanzid, put on a 93-run stand, surpassing Mehrab Hossain and Shahriar Hossain's 69-run partnership against Pakistan in the 1999 World Cup.

The duo got off to a cautious start, managing just 10 runs in the first five overs, with Liton taking 14 balls to get off the mark. 

But the next five overs paid great dividends for the Tigers when their opener adopted a ploy of going down the wicket to upset the bowlers' lengths. Bangladesh finished the Powerplay with 63 runs runs for no loss meaning the openers scored 53 runs in the second half of the Powerplay.

Taznid hit his maiden ODI fifty soon after but couldn't make it a big one. He took 41 balls to reach the landmark as he put away five fours and three sixes and put together a record 93-run stand with fellow opener Liton before getting trapped lbw by Kuldeep Yadav in the 15th over.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto failed to make an impression as he departed after scoring a 17-ball eight-run knock when he misjudged the length facing a regulation Ravindra Jadeja ball as he went back to a rather full-length delivery, looking to tuck it through the leg side but the left-handed batter failed to make contact and was trapped in front to leave Bangladesh two down for 110 after 20 overs.

A surprising move saw the team management promote Mehedi Hasan Miraz to number four, a decision that backfired as it slowed down the flow of runs, with Miraz upsetting the momentum with his 13-ball three-run knock. 

Mushfiqur looked good for his 46-ball 38 but Towhid Hridoy struggled for every run in a dismal 35-ball 16 before he was dismissed while trying to hit his way out of trouble.

Nasum Ahmed contributed with an 18-ball 14 and Mahmudullah's knock ensured Bangladesh post a total beyond 250. 

Jadeja stunner sends back Mushfiqur
 

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja pulled off a stunner at backward point to send back in-form Bangladesh batter Mushfiqur Rahim in the 43rd over bowled by Jasprit Bumrah.

Bumrah bowled it short and wide and Mushfiqur managed to make adequate contact when he cut it with force but Jadeja flew to his right with an outstretched right-hand as he pocketed a splendid catch to dismiss the right-handed batter who scored a 46-ball 38.

Mushfiqur's dismissal meant that Bangladesh lost six wickets with the score on 201 after the completion of the 43rd over as India made their way into the tail of the Bangladesh lineup. 

Nasum Ahmed came to the crease, with Mahmudullah unbeaten on 14 at the other end.  

Hridoy put out of his misery as Tigers lose five

Bangladesh batter Towhid Hridoy's struggles in the middle ended when gave tried to take on India pacer Shardul Thakur across the line in the 38th over of the innings in their World Cup encounter in Pune on Thursday.

The right-handed batter, who came in at five on the day, played a sluggish 35-ball 16 before pershing while trying to hit his way out of trouble. He was put out of his misery as he lobbed one to Shubman Gill at short midwicket.

This left the Tigers five down for 181 after the end of the 38th over, and brought Mahmudullah Riyad to the crease, with Mushfiqur Rahim unbeaten on 31 off 35 balls at the other end.

Liton departs for 66 as Bangladesh are four down 

Opener Liton Das gave his wicket away scoring an 82-ball 66 when he tried to loft India's left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja over long-off in the 28th over to leave the Tigers four down for 137 after 28 overs.

The Tigers once again are struggling to capitalise on a good start, with set batters failing to cash in. 

Siraj gets Miraz as Tigers lose three 

Bangladesh all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz got caught behind when he failed to put away a length ball sliding down the leg side bowled by India pacer Mohammad Siraj in the 25th over of the innings leaving the Tigers three down for 131 after the end of that over. 

Miraz struggled to rotate the strike and departed for a 12-ball three-run knock.

This brought Towhid Hridoy to the crease, with Liton Das unbeaten on 64 runs off 74 balls at the other end.

Liton hits 12th ODI fifty 

Bangladesh opener Liton Das notched up his 12th ODI fifty in the Tigers' World Cup encounter against India in Pune on Thursday.

Liton reached the landmark in 62 balls when he tucked it away for a single in the 22nd over of the innings after which the Tigers managed 114 runs for the loss of two. He hit five fours in the process following a cautious start that saw him take 14 balls to get of the mark.

This is his second fifty of the tournament as he scored a 76-run knock against England in Bangladesh's second match of the tournament in Dharamshala. 

Tigers captain Shanto departs for eight runs

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto failed to make an impression as he departed after scoring a 17-ball eight-run knock against India in their World Cup encounter in Pune on Thursday. 

Shanto misjudged length on a regulation Ravindra Jadeja ball as he went back to a rather full-length delivery, looking to tuck it through the leg side but the left-handed batter failed to make contact and was trapped in front to leave Bangladesh two down for 110 after 20 overs.

Tanzid Tamim departs after scoring maiden ODI fifty

Bangladesh opener Tanzid Tamim was trapped lbw for a 43-ball 51 by India's left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav in their World Cup contest in Pune on Thursday.

Tanzid took 41 balls to reach the landmark as he put away five fours and three sixes and put together a 93-run stand with fellow opener Liton Das, who scored a 43-ball 37 till the 14 over mark.

But in the following over, Tanzid missed a straight delivery while attempting a sweep shot which gave India their first breakthrough.

This left the Tigers one down for 94 following the completion of the 15th over.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto came to the crease, with Liton unbeaten on a 45-ball 39 at the other end.

Tanzid hits maiden ODI fifty

Bangladesh opener Tanzid Tamim smashed his maiden ODI fifty against India in their World Cup contest in Pune on Thursday.

Tanzid took 41 balls to reach the landmark as he put away five fours and three sixes and put together a record 90-run unbeaten stand with fellow opener Liton Das, who scored a 43-ball 37 till the 14 over mark.

Openers put on 50-run stand for Tigers 

Bangladesh openers Liton Das and Tanzid Tamim gave the Tigers a solid start with a 63-run stand after first 10 overs in their World Cup encounter against India in Pune on Thursday. 

Both the openers got off to a cautious start half-way through the Powerplay having scored just 10 runs in the first five overs but in the next five, Tanzid upped the ante and Liton followed suit as both the batters adopted the ploy to unsettle the India pacers by coming down the wicket.

This tactic paid great dividends as the openers smashed 53 runs in the next five overs to finish at 63 runs for no loss after the end of the Powerplay.

Tanzid smashed four boundaries and three sixes for his 30-ball 40, while Liton put away four fours for his 30-ball 21.

Bangladesh score 10 in first five overs

Bangladesh openers Liton Das and Tanzid Tamim got off to a cautious start as they scored 10 runs for no loss in the first five overs of the innings in their World Cup encounter against India in Pune on Thursday.

Liton took 14 balls to get off the mark, while Tanzid Tamim looked solid for his nine runs off 14 balls which featured one boundary. 

No Shakib as Shanto-led Bangladesh opt to bat against India

Bangladesh will be missing regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan for their crucial World Cup game against India as vice-captain Najmul Hossain Shanto walked out for the toss at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune today. The Tigers won the toss and elected to bat.

"Shakib is struggling a bit. Hopefully, he will recover soon as he is very important for us. Nasum Ahmed has come in to replace him," Shanto said at the toss.

Shakib was taken for an initial scan on his left thigh on Friday after suffering an injury in the New Zealand game. The champion cricketer went for a second MRI scan yesterday and was expected to receive the report this morning.

The team management did not reveal Shakib's injury status officially. However, team director Khaled Mahmud Sujon earlier mentioned that the all-rounder has suffered a tear in his left quadriceps.    

Bangladesh made another change to the eleven that played in their eight-wicket defeat against New Zealand last Friday in Chennai. Misfiring Taskin Ahmed has been replaced by Hasan Mahmud for the game today. 

Meanwhile, India went with an unchanged eleven for the game.
