Liton praises 'organised' Shanto
Bangladesh's stand-in skipper, Liton Das, informed that he could not have asked for more after the way his sealed a record 546-run win over Afghanistan in the fourth day of the lone Test in Mirpur on Saturday.
The Tigers achieved their highest margin of victory in Tests, in terms of runs -- the biggest of the 21st century by any team -- and also the third-highest ever in the history of Test cricket.
"Definitely, you just can't register a win of such a big margin anytime you want. Credit must go to the batters, the way they batted since the wicket was not an easy one," said Liton during the post-match press conference in Mirpur today.
"To be honest, our bowlers bowled really well, maintaining the line and length, and got the help which is why things got easy for them. But still, when you win a game, especially in Test cricket and that too by such a margin, there's nothing more to ask as a captain. So, I am happy."
The 28-year-old also praised Najmul Hossain Shanto since the left-hander managed to overcome his lean patch early in the career and emerged as one of the most consistent batters for the Tigers across all formats. Shanto struck hundreds in both the innings against Afghanistan to become only the second Bangladesh batter after Mominul Haque to do so.
According to Liton, the change in training method from Shanto helped him improve as a batter.
"Even I was at the same place like Shanto, not long ago. I spoke with him a lot. Don't know how much that helped him, but I believe he has changed his training method and he is more organised now. Obviously, when you play international cricket for some time, you start to know what are the strong and weak points.
"I think he (Shanto) pointed out those areas and worked on that. It's a very good sign and I want him to continue this. But still, there are times when he will have a bad time, but it is important that he can follow the process and continue," he said.
