Bangladesh suffered an eight-wicket defeat in their third and final ODI against the West Indies at Warner Park in St Kitts on Friday, a result that not only saw the Tigresses lose the three-match series 2-1 but also denied them direct qualification to the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025.

After bouncing back from a crushing nine-wicket defeat in the series opener with a convincing 60-run win over the Windies in the second ODI -- which was also the Tigresses' first win against the Windies -- Bangladesh needed a win in this game to claim their maiden ODI series victory over the Windies and also seal the final qualification spot for the World Cup.

With 21 points, Bangladesh finished seventh in the ICC Women's Championship standings -- a spot behind New Zealand, who are only ahead of the Tigresses due to a better net run rate and have now qualified for the World Cup in India later this year. Hosts India, Australia, England, South Africa, and Sri Lanka are the other teams who had already earned direct qualification to the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh have now joined West Indies, Ireland, Pakistan, Scotland, and Thailand in the World Cup qualifiers from which two top teams will book their places in the main event.

Having elected to bat first on Friday, Bangladesh were bundled out for just 118 in 43.5 overs. A team-high of 58-ball 37 came from Sharmin Akter, with Sobhana Mostary and opener Fargana Hoque Pinky also contributing 25 and 22 runs, respectively. Skipper Nigar Sultana Joty could only score 11 off 29 deliveries.

Meanwhile, Karishma Ramharack starred with the ball in hand for the hosts, claiming four for 12 in 6.5 overs.

Chasing a mediocre total, West Indies never looked to be in any sort of trouble as they romped to victory in just 27.3 overs. The opening pair of skipper Hayley Matthews and Qiana Joseph added 45 runs before the former was trapped in front by Nahida Akter in the 12th over after a 33-ball 22.

Bangladesh pacer Marufa Akter had Qiana Joseph (39 off 66) caught and bowled in the 21st over but unbeaten knocks of 25 and 33 runs from Shemaine Campbelle and Deandra Dottin, respectively, saw the Windies cruise to the target.
