Pothas quits Bangladesh job citing family reasons
Bangladesh men's team's fielding coach Nic Pothas has resigned from his role, citing family reasons, a Bangladesh Cricket Board official confirmed the matter on Friday.
"During the West Indies series, he resigned from his role due to family reasons. It is effective from December 20," BCB's cricket operations in-charge Shahriar Nafees told The Daily Star.
Earlier, on April 6, 2023, the former South African batter was appointed assistant coach of the the Tigers for two years. Later, his contract was also extended for a year until March 2026.
However, in the last few months, Pothas was given a new role as fielding coach of the national side, scrapping the old one.
The 51-year-old announced his departure through an Instagram post.
"Well, like all good things, this too must come to an end. I've had an amazing time with some great people while with @bcb_tigers_official. We've broken many records along the way and made history and amazing memories. Now to spend some quality time at home and see what the next chapter holds. I wish all at Bangladesh Cricket the very best for an exciting year ahead. I'll miss you," said Pothas.
In a coaching career that spans over a decade, Pothas has worked as the head coach of West Indies (2018–2019) and Sri Lanka (2017–2018).
He has also performed the roles of assistant coach and fielding coach of the West Indies side and has been the lead fielding coach of Sri Lanka.
Prior to joining Bangladesh, Pothas was the wicketkeeping coach of Hampshire County Cricket Club. A right-handed batter in his playing days, Pothas appeared in three ODIs for South Africa and made over sixteen thousand first-class and List A runs.
