Bangladesh lost a flurry of wickets after taking the lead against Zimbabwe on the second day of the second Test in Chattogram on Tuesday.

Once the hosts passed Zimbabwe's score of 227, losing only three wickets, the hosts had looked set for a massive lead.

However, four wickets for 20 runs put paid to the hosts' hopes as they only managed a 64-run lead in the first innings, with only three wickets left.

After Shadman Islam's fall for 120, none of the batters managed to contribute in a big way despite getting starts.

Anamul Haque (39), Mominul Haque (33), Najmul Hossain Shanto (23) and Mushfiqur Rahim (40) looked good for a while but got out at inopportune times.

At stumps, Bangladesh were 291 for seven, with Mehedi Hasan Miraz batting on 16 and Taijul Islam not out on five.

Debutant Vincent Masekesa was the most impressive of the bowlers, the leg-break bowler taking three wickets so far.

Bangladesh lost the wickets of Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque before Tea on the second day of the Chattogram Test, but the hosts were closing in on the visitors' first-innings total.

Bangladesh were 205 for three in 57 overs, trailing by only 22 runs with seven wickets in hand.

Shadman was the last man dismissed, 10 minutes before Tea, falling to a leg-before dismissal against part-time off-spinner Brian Bennett. He had scored his second Test century (120) -- the first Bangladeshi opener to get to three figures in Test match cricket in three years. In the process, the left-hander also surpassed 1000 runs in the format.

Mominul Haque had departed a few overs earlier, falling to an ambitious shot against Wellington Masakadza for 33.

Opener Shadman Islam brought up the second century of his Test career with a solid knock against Zimbabwe on the second day of the Chattogram Test on Tuesday.

The left-handed batter smashed Richard Ngarava for a boundary to reach the magic figure -- his 100 coming off 142 balls -- as Bangladesh took complete control of the Test match.

Shadman had Mominul Haque as partner at the other end following the fall of Anamul Haque, who was dismissed for 39 off Blessing Muzarabani on his return to red-ball international cricket.

Bangladesh were 150 for one in 42 overs at drinks, an hour after Lunch, trailing Zimbabwe by 77 runs.

Lunch, Day 2

Openers Shadman Islam and Anamul Haque gave Bangladesh a strong start to their innings in reply to Zimbabwe's first-innings total of 227.

Left-handed Shadman brought up his sixth Test century, remaining unbeaten on 66 off 91 deliveries as Bangladesh reached 105 without losing any wicket at Lunch on Day 2.

Anamul, who was called up to the Test side after three years, was batting on 38 as Bangladesh trailed the visitors' total by 122 runs.

It took only a single delivery on the second morning of the Chattogram Test to wrap up the Zimbabwe innings on Tuesday.

Taijul Islam, who had taken five wickets on the first day, had Zimbabwe No 11, Blessing Muzarabani, caught behind off a slight edge. Although the on-field umpire did not give it out, Bangladesh appealed and were successful as the visitors, who lead the two-match series 1-0, were bowled out for 227 in 90.1 overs.
