Shakib ‘not following IPL that much’

Bangladesh premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan said today that he is hardly watching the matches of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

"I am not following IPL that much…I am busy with the [Dhaka] Premier League (DPL)," Shakib, who is featuring for Mohammedan in the DPL, told the reporters during the opening of a coffee shop in the capital on Tuesday.

Shakib, who was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for this season of the money-spinning league, had earlier opted out of the tournament citing 'family reasons'.

Before that, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) didn't issue a No Objection Certificate (NOCs) to the Test and T20I skipper Shakib and Liton Das, also picked by KKR for the season, during the Ireland series earlier this month.

Liton, however, has already joined KKR following the Ireland series.

Asked whether he gave any advices to Liton, Shakib said: "No, I didn't give him any advice. I even didn't talk about IPL with him. What I want is for Liton to enjoy his game if he gets a chance. If Liton can play in his own way, he will be successful there. But his IPL experience will be handy in the World Cup."

In reply to another question, Shakib said he was not aware that Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) already announced the team for Ireland series in England and jokingly added that it's great as his name was there.
