Sheikh Hasina Stadium agreement signed
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has signed a 48-month contract with Popullous Pte. Ltd as the international consultant for the Sheikh Hasina Cricket Stadium during a ceremony held at a hotel in Dhaka yesterday.
Andrew Frederick James, director of Popullous Pte. Ltd, gave a virtual presentation of the stadium in presence of other dignitaries.
The entire construction process has been divided into three phases and the company is expected to hand over the stadium to the BCB in 48 months.
"Bangladesh Cricket Board has completed the first phase of constructing the Sheikh Hasina Cricket Stadium. Popullous has been given 48 months to complete the job. In the first six months they will work on the design and then in the next 30 months in constructing the venue. In the remaining 12 months they will work on maintenance," BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury told the media yesterday.
The design of the stadium, which is situated in Purbachal, is inspired by a boat. However, it is still at its primary stage and the representatives of the company informed that they will provide an improved version of the design in the coming days.
Populous has been involved in design and consultancy of many stadium projects such as The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium of Premier League and the Emirates Stadium which plays hosts to Arsenal.
