Tamim at Gono Bhaban to meet prime minister: sources
Cricketer Tamim Iqbal has gone to the PM's office to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today, said sources close to the development.
Tamim, who announced his retirement from international cricket yesterday, was supposed to meet the PM at her office at 2:30pm, the sources confirmed to The Daily Star.
In a shocking turn of events, on the day following the first ODI against Afghanistan, Tamim announced yesterday that he would hang up his boots, calling an end to his glittering 16-year-career, just three months away from the ODI World Cup.
The 34-year-old, who broke into tears during the shocking announcement in Chattogram, had left for Dhaka on Friday morning.
A few hours after Tamim's announcement and following an urgent meeting of the board, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon said later yesterday that Tamim is still the ODI captain of Bangladesh, adding that the board were yet to receive his official resignation.
Tamim is expected to fly to Dubai on July 18.
