Tamim now holds the record for most ducks in Bangladesh colors
Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal made an unwanted record when he was dismissed in the third over of the first ODI against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club today. The left-hander now holds the record for scoring most ducks in Bangladesh's colors.
It was the 34th time across formats that Tamim was dismissed without troubling the scorers when the southpaw edged a Blessing Muzarabani delivery. He tried to cut an angling away delivery that was too close to his body and only managed to give a catch to wicketkeeper Regis Chakabva. The Bangladesh skipper had to walk away after a seven-ball naught.
Tamim surpassed former Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, who has 33 ducks across all formats. Mohammad Ashraful has 31 and Mushfiqur Rahim, who is missing the ODI and T20I series due to family reasons, has 26 ducks to their names.
Tamim also leads the chart of being dismissed on zero in ODIs for Bangladesh. He now has been dismissed for zero 19 times in ODIs. Tamim left behind former Bangladesh skipper Habibul Bashar, who has been dismissed without scoring 18 times in his ODI career.
Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya and West Indies player Chris Gayle are the two other openers who have scored more ducks in international cricket across formats. Jayasuriya has been dismissed 45 times at zero while Gayle has 40 ducks to his name.
