Tamim surpasses Shakib in Barishal records
Current Fortune Barishal skipper Tamim Iqbal surpassed the franchise's former star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in half-centuries scored in the Bangladesh Premier League.
Barishal got back to winning ways at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday as they chased down a paltry 139-run total in an eight-wicket win over Dhaka Capitals on the back of a 48-ball 61 by Tamim – the left-hander's second fifty of the ongoing edition.
It was the southpaw's seventh fifty for Barishal as he trumped Shakib Al Hasan who has six for the franchise. Shakib, however, took 22 innings to register those fifties, while Tamim crossed Shakib in his 30th innings. Tamim also became the first batter to score 1000 runs for the franchise. He was three runs short of the landmark and got there in the very first over of the chase. Shakib is second in that list with 659 runs from 24 matches.
Tamim now boasts 1038 runs at an average of 38.44 and a strike-rate of 126.27 for Fortune Barishal, who are second on the table with eight points from six matches, six shy of league leaders Rangpur Riders.
