Tigers win second Afghanistan ODI to level series

Bangladesh secured a 68-run victory over Afghanistan in the second ODI in the UAE on Saturday, levelling the three-match series 1-1.

Chasing a target of 253 runs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Afghanistan lost momentum in the middle overs, with Hashmatullah Shahidi's side collapsing to 184 all out in 43.3 overs after being well-placed at 118 for two in 28.5 overs.

Nasum Ahmed claimed three wickets for the Tigers, including breaking a 58-run second-wicket partnership.

Earlier, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto led the way with a team-high 76, guiding Bangladesh to 252 for seven in 50 overs.

The two teams will play the series decider on Monday.

Tigers scalp 3 in 6 balls to shift momentum

Bangladesh claimed three quick Afghanistan wickets in the middle overs, shifting the momentum in their favour during the second ODI in Sharjah on Saturday.

Afghanistan are now 119 for five after 29.5 overs in their pursuit of Bangladesh's 252-7.

The Tigers, desperate for a breakthrough as Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi and Rahmat Shah compiled a fifty partnership, setting up a possible series-clinching win, saw pacer Mustafizur Rahman remove Shahidi (17) in the 29th over.

In the following over, spinner Nasum Ahmed struck again, dismissing new batter Azmatullah Omarzai for a golden duck, before Shah (52) was run out in the same over.

Tigers remove Afghanistan openers, seek more breakthroughs

Afghanistan have begun their chase of 253 runs steadily against Bangladesh in the second of three ODIs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

The Afghans are 70 for two after 16.1 overs.

The Tigers managed to send dangerman Rahmanullah Gurbaz (two) back to the pavilion early in the fourth over, courtesy of Taskin Ahmed, but opener Sediqullah Atal and Rahmat Shah stitched a 52-run stand to steady the ship before Nasum Ahmed removed Atal for 39.

Bangladesh are trailing the three-match series 1-0.

Shanto, Jaker propel Tigers to 252-7 in second Afghanistan ODI 

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto scored his ninth ODI fifty and debutant Jaker Ali Anik played a brisk cameo late in the innings to help propel the Tigers to 252-7 after opting to bat first in the second ODI of the three-match series against Afghanistan at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Shanto chewed up 119 balls for his 76 but his runs were proved to be crucial as he held up one end while wickets feel at the other. The left-handed batter put together consecutive fifty-run stands with Soumya Sarker (35 off 49 balls) and Mehedi Hasan Miraz (22 off 33 balls) after opener Tanzid Tamim (22 off 177 balls) departed early in the fourth over.

The Tigers were cruising at 142-2 after 32 overs but lost six wickets in within the next seven overs, with the total until under 200, which put them under pressure. 

But Jaker and Nasum Ahmed put together a 46-run stand, with the former seeing the innings through to propel the Tigers past 250. Jaker three sixes and a four for his unbeaten 27-ball 37 while Nasum put away two sixes and a solitary four in 24-ball 25-run knock. 

Left-arm spinner Nangeyalia Kharote was the pick of the bowlers as he returned three wickets for 28 runs, while Rashid Khan and Allah Ghazanfar scalped two each. 

Shanto departs as Tigers lose six wickets under 200 

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto threw his wicket away after chewing up 119 balls for his 76 runs and Mahmudullah Riyad (three off nine balls) failed to clear the ropes as the Tigers slumped to 184-6 after 41 overs in the second ODI of the three-match series against Afghanistan at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Both batters fell while trying to hit big in the 41st over bowled by left-arm spinner Nageyalia Kharote. 

The Tigers were cruising along at 142-2 after 32 overs but Mehedi Hasan Miraz (22 off 33 balls) fell in the next over to a Rashid Kahn googly.

Towhid Hridoy (11 off 16 balls) followed suit in the 38th over when he scooped one while trying to slog Kharote.

Shanto hits fifty as Tigers motor on 

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto reached his ninth ODI half-century to propel the Tigers to 142-2 after 30 overs in the second ODI of the three-match series against Afghanistan at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Shanto, who hit four boundaries and a solitary maximum, reached the landmark in 75 balls. At the other end, Mehedi Hasan Miraz remained unbeaten 21 off 30 deliveries.

Soumya departs, Tigers lose two 

Bangladesh opener Soumya Sarker departed after a well-made 49-ball 35 to reduce the Tigers to 100-2 after 19 overs in the second ODI of the three-match series against Afghanistan at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Soumya went back to full-ish delivery bowled Rashid Khan and it kept low and crashed onto his pads before the umpire signaled out. Soumya did not go for the review which would've saved him as it was later shown on Ball Tracking that the delivery pitched outside leg-stump. 

Soumya-Shanto puts on 50-run stand

Bangladesh batters Soumya Sarker and Najmul Hossain Shanto put on an unbeaten 63-run stand to propel their side to 85-1 after 15 overs after the Tigers opted to bat in the second ODI of the three-match series against Afghanistan at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Soumya put away two fours and as many sixes for his unbeaten 41-ball 32, while Shanto hit three fours for his 32-ball 24. 

Earlier, the Tigers lost opener Tanzid Tamim for a 17-ball 22 in the fourth over. 

Tanzid departs early 

It was another disappointing outing for Bangladesh opener Tanzid Tamim as departed after a 17-ball 22 after the Tigers opted to bat in the second ODI of the three-match series against Afghanistan at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

The left-handed batter put away three fours and six but got carried away which led to his dismissal. After taking mystery spinner Allah Ghazanfar for a six in the first delivery of the fourth over, Tanzid looked to go again in the next delivery down the ground but could only end up giving a simple catch to mid-on. 

Bangladesh were 29-1 after four overs. 

Jaker debuts, Nasum comes in as Bangladesh bat first

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first in the second ODI of the three-match series against Afghanistan at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE today.

The Tigers have made two changes in their playing eleven. Mushfiqur Rahim is out of the series with a fractured finger and in his place debutant Jaker Ali Anik will keep wickets. Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain has also been dropped in favour of left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed.

Afghanistan, who won the first ODI to lead the series 1-0, are going in with an unchanged eleven.

Bangladesh must win the match to keep the series alive, after having lost the first match by 92 runs.
