‘I am happy to be a part of this team’
Bangladesh's new bowling coach Courtney Walsh spoke to the media for the first time since his arrival today afternoon.
Speaking to reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium he said that he is confident that he can help develop Bangladesh's bowling department during his tenure.
"I won't say names but Bangladesh's bowling has done extremely well in the last few years and I am happy to be a part of this team.”
"When the BCB CEO first approached me he said that I was their number one target. That made me realise how serious the board was. I also think that the BCB has done a lot for the players in terms of facilities and that too encouraged me.”
He further said that he hopes to encourage the Bangladeshi bowlers the same way that his senior bowling partners during his playing days encouraged him.
On September 1, one of the most iconic fast bowlers to come out of the Caribbean, West Indies legend Courtney Walsh officially became the specialist bowling coach of Bangladesh national cricket team.
Walsh has reached an agreement with the BCB which is effective from 01 September 2016 and runs up to the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in England.
BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said Walsh’s vast experience will be a valuable addition to a growing team.
Mashrafe Mortaza was rather pleased after Walsh’s appointment.
“It is great news, but it is especially good news for me as he [Walsh] is an idol of mine,” limited-overs captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza said at a press conference.
