The Daily Star (TDS) booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Walton-DRU Media Cup Football Tournament after a 1-0 victory over Gazi TV at Shaheed (Captain) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in Gulistan today.

Mohammad Al-Amin, Sports Editor of The Daily Star gave his side the lead late in the riveting match with a simple tap-in from Fazlur’s pass. His goal in the 15th minute effectively knocked the stuffing out of Gazi TV and ensured the quarter-final clash tomorrow morning at the same venue, reports our correspondent.

TDS made several penetrative attacks from the onset of the 20-min match, but were unable to take the lead. Their goalkeeper Mujibur made some timely saves to keep his team in the contest. The game became more exciting with the numerous attacks and counter-attacks from both sides desperate to break the deadlock.

In the 15th minute, Fazlur found Al-Amin at the opportune moment with a weighted pass and the striker didn’t make any mistake. Gazi TV’s resistance was finally broken, they tried to come back but found Mujibur too good for their efforts.

The Walton-DRU Media Cup Football Tournament, organised by Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) and sponsored by Walton Group began on August 28 with 34 teams representing various print, electronic media, news agencies and online media houses of Bangladesh.
