Brothers Union eliminated defending champions Mohammedan Sporting Club with a 1-0 victory in the first quarterfinal of the Under-18 Club Cup Football Tournament at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.

It looked like the first knock-out phase match would be heading for extra time as neither of the sides could pose a meaningful threat at the opposition goal before Abu Raihan Khandoker scored in the penultimate minute of regulation time to seal the young brigade of the Gopeebagh-based outfit their first ticket to the semifinals.

Mohammedan had emerged champions in the two previous age-group club tournaments held in 2014 and 2015.

Team BJMC will face Farashganj Sporting Club in the second quarterfinal today.
