From CR7 to Modi

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a special gift, a Portugal football team jersey personally signed by one of the world's greatest sporting icons and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo

Modi received the gift--the red T-shirt carrying the trademark CR7 from none other than visiting Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa with whom he held bilateral talks here today, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

Costa has his origin in Indian state of Goa and his 150-year-old ancestral house is situated on Rua Abade Faria in the heart of Margao in Goa which is a former Portuguese colony. Goa became liberated and joined India in 1961.

In his media statement, Modi said Portugal's strength in football and the rapid development of the sport in India could form the nucleus of an emerging partnership in sporting disciplines.

In their talks, the two leaders welcomed the ongoing efforts to institutionalize collaboration between football clubs and associations in both countries to better harness sports talent and collaborate in training and exchange of school students and coaches.
