Famed footballer Ainul Haque passes away
Former footballer, member of the Swadhin Bangla Football team Ainul Haque breathed his last on Monday night after battling lung cancer for the last four months. He was 68.
The famed footballer of the '60s and '70s died at around 10:15pm at his Jigatola residence, family sources said. He left behind his wife, one daughter and a host of well-wishers.
Ainul Haque started his football career with Police team before moving on to Fire Service team. However, he spent the best years of his career at Mohammedan Sporting Club, where he joined in 1968 and continued to play after independence.
He was part of the Dhaka Ekadash -- the team representing Bangladesh -- which participated in the Bordolui Trophy in Assam in 1972.
