‘Leo makes it look easy, but it's not that easy’
Lionel Messi scores a gem of a cheeky free-kick that evokes memories of Brazilian genius Ronaldinho as Barca win 6-1 against Girona.
The goal was so good that it even surprised Leo’s coach and his Barca teammates. "It's difficult to get used to, especially because we're talking about a player about whom we say we've seen it all, but Messi always surprises you," said Valverde.
The Argentine produced another mesmerizing performance as Barca came back from going down a goal as early as the third minute of the match. The Argentine had provided the assist for Luis Suarez for Barca’s equalizer before he beat a couple of defenders to score and hand Barca the lead in the 30th minute.
He mesmerized by scoring a Ronaldinho-esque free kick that slid under the jumping Girona wall and past the right hand of the goalkeeper. Barca coach Valverde was mesmerized and said: "It's hard to get used to these things.
"Just when a player seems to have done everything, he goes and surprises you. We were waiting to see how he was going to beat the wall and then he goes underneath it.
"When you see it, you think 'ah, of course...' Leo makes it look easy, but it's not that easy."
Philippe Coutinho, who had scored a brilliant goal himself said that they were not sure what Messi was upto.
"It's incredible how good he is. With each game, I have a better understanding with him and with Suarez. [Messi's] very important for us,” he said. Coutinho is developing an understanding with the front two and was involved in a lovely move where Messi sent him through before he squared the ball to Luis Suarez, who eventually went onto score a hattrick.
Messi had shared many great moments with friend and former Barcelona teammate Ronaldinho Gaucho. The Argentine's free-kick evoked memories of the one that the Brazilian scored against Werder Bremen in the Champions League during his Barca tenure.
