Bangladesh clinch World Cup Qualifiers spot
Bangladesh beat Maldives 2-1 in the second leg of their World Cup pre-qualifiers fixture at the Bashundhara Kings Arena in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The win gave the men in red and green a spot in the group-stage of the World Cup Qualifiers where they were pitted in Group I with Australia, Palestine, and Lebanon. Each team will play six matches in a two-legged format meaning Bangladesh will get six matches in total.
Bangladesh forward Rakib Hossain broke the deadlock in the 11th minute before Maldives' Ibrahim Aisham scored the equaliser in the 36th minute.
Winger Foysal Fahim restored Bangladesh's lead in the 46th minute after the first half ended 1-1.
However, the charges of Javier Cabrera have suffered a setback as Mohammad Sohel Rana was shown a red card after the midfield failed to execute a tackle from behind in the 59th minute. But Jamal Bhuyan and his troops managed to hold the lead to come out as winners at home.
The first leg of the fixture ended 1-1.
