Bangladesh, Laos joint champions as final is cancelled

Bangladesh and Laos have been declared joint champions of the Bangamata U-19 Women's International Gold Cup after the organisers, Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), decided to postpone the final due to cyclonic storm Fani.

The final was scheduled to kick off at 6:00pm at the Bangabandhu National Stadium today.

In a press conference held at the press facilities of the BNS at around 6:20pm, the tournament's organising committee chairman Abdus Salam Murshedi told media that they decided to postpone the final due to the 'severity of cyclone Fani'.

"Due to the severity of Fani and the consequent situation around the country, the organising committee of the Bangamata U-19 Women's International Gold Cup 2019, in consultation with the participating teams, decided to postpone the final and announce bangladesh and Laos as joint champions," said Murshedi.

The BFF's senior vice-president also informed that the prize money for the final will be equally divided between the two teams (US$20,000 each.
