Former national women's team head coach Golam Rabbani Choton returned to the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) in a new role as he was appointed as the head of youth development and BFF Elite Football Academy for one year effective from January 1.

The 56-year-old, who had coached Bangladesh to their maiden SAFF Women's Championship title back in 2022, had quit from his previous role 19 months back citing family reasons.

Choton said that there was no possibility of him coming back to the BFF during his resignation in May 2023, and began working as the head coach of Army Women's football team.

However, the scenario has changed under the newly elected BFF president Tabith Awal as BFF Development Committee chairman and BFF vice president Nasser Shahriar Zahedee decided to appoint Choton as the head of youth development after consulting with Tabith.

"I want to thank president Tabith Awal and development committee chairman Nasser Shahriar Zahedee for giving me a new opportunity to work with the BFF," Choton told the reporters after receiving the appointment letter at the BFF headquarter today.

"I have come here afresh with new responsibility as the head of youth development. I believe there are a lot of areas to work and improve in the youth development and our focus is to develop the youth, so that they can turn into good players and good human beings," said Choton, adding that he has been assured that the local game's governing body will do everything to develop the youth level footballers.

Replying to a query, the AFC pro-license holder said that he had worked at the grassroot level before getting involved with women's football in 2008, so he would not face any problem in executing his new role.
