'Hamza's inclusion to increase the level of Bangladesh team'
Bangladesh national team coach Javier Cabrera believes the inclusion of Leicester City footballer Hamza Choudhury will increase the standard of the team in coming days.
Hamza, after being cleared to represent Bangladesh by FIFA, is expected to don the red and green jersey in March in the upcoming Asian Cup Qualifiers, where Bangladesh have been placed alongside India, Hong Kong and Singapore.
"It is a great news for the country to bring in someone like Hamza. It is not only that the level of the team will increase, but also internationally many teams will look at Bangladesh national team because he is one of the first Premier League player to play in an Asian national team," Cabrera told reporters on Monday after being handed a contract extension till April 2026.
Cabrera, who returned to Dhaka last Friday, informed that he had not talked to Hamza yet but he would speak and get in touch with him very quickly.
The 40-year-old coach is also not concerned about Hamza getting acclimatised with the condition and gelling with the other players.
"We are not concerned about it [adjustment] because we are very sure that he [Hamza] is able to adjust whatever the Idea or model we are going to develop because he is very high-profile player and is able to adjust to any kind of context," Cabrera said. "Of course, the local players will also adjust because when you have good players around you, you will adjust with them."
The Spaniard is planning to have a four-week preparation camp in Saudi Arabia ahead of the first match of Asian Cup Qualifiers against India.
