Bashundhara Kings came from behind to clinch the Federation Cup final 2-1 against Mohammedan at Rafique Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh today.

The match rolled into extra-time after it ended 1-1 at full-time. Substitute Jahid Hossain struck the winning goal from close range late in the first half of extra-time for Kings after Mohammedan goalkeeper Sujan Hossain failed to gather a corner.

Kings completed a treble with the win as they had already bagged the Independence Cup and the Bangladesh Premier League title.

Jahid's decisive goal incited controversy as Mohammedan protested the strike citing the foul on the goalkeeper. Mohammedan players pushed referee Jasim Akhter several times and spectators joined in as they threw bottles of water directed towards Kings players. The match came to a halt for nearly 15 minutes before play resumed.

Despite the hostile environment, Kings held their nerves in the last 15 minutes of extra time to become only the second side in Bangladesh's top-flight history to win a treble after Sheikh Russel KC achieved the feat in the 2012-13 season.

The atmosphere in the stadium was electrifying straight from the outset and the raucousness was reminiscent of a Mohammedan-Abahani encounter which was seen in last year's Federation Cup final.

The ear-deafening support and the non-stop sound of Vuvuzelas from some 10,000 supporters who flocked to the ground from different upazilas of Mymensingh and Dhaka left the whole stadium buzzing from the outset.

The excitement found its way into the players as well as players of both sides were physical, forcing referee Josim Akhter to warn several players. He also booked a couple.

However, it was Kings who dominated most of the proceedings in the first half. The club's top-scorer Dorielton Gomes was denied by Mohammedan goalkeeper Sujan before Sohel Rana Jr drove wide from the edge of the box.

After seeing through the initial pressure from Kings, Mohammedan launched a fine attack when striker Souleymane Diabate and Emmanuel Sunday exchanged near the box before the former let loose a powerful strike which was saved by Kings goalkeeper Mehedi Hasan Sraban.

After resumption, both sides made one change apiece, with Mohammedan bringing on substitute Jahid who replaced Bishwanath Ghosh.

Substitute winger Shahriar Emon targeted Kings' left flank and exploited the frailty at least four times to break the deadlock but Sraban stood tall to rescue Kings on three occasions before finally succumbing to stop a 25-yard thumping left-footed strike from Sunday in the 63rd minute.

Kings coach Oscar Bruzon brought on three pair of fresh legs and shifted Jahid to right-back and it seemed to have worked well.

Dorielton was denied by Sujan in the 77th minute before Robson was left in disbelief after he hit the sidebar four minutes later from 30 yards out. Mohammedan could have killed the game in the same minute from a counter-attack but Diabate failed to convert, thanks to a superb save from keeper Sraban.

Robson missed again from close range but Miguel Ferreira made no mistake and levelled the margin in the 87th minute, finishing from a darting run into the box. He raced past four Mohammedan players to hammer a cannon-like low-driven shot past Sujan to seal the game for his side.
