Title contenders Mohammedan SC kept their winning streak intact in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) while the defending champions Bashundhara Kings stumbled again today.

Mohammedan SC extended their winning streak to five after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Fortis FC at the Shaheed Dhirendrananth Datta Stadium in Cumilla while the Kings came from behind to play a 1-1 draw against the Brothers Union at Bashundhara Kings arena in Dhaka.

The Black and White outfits are enjoying such an extensive winning streak in top-flight football after many seasons. In the inaugural edition of the B League in 2007, Mohammedan SC had two separate five-match winning streaks. They also had a 13-match winning run in which the Motijheel-based club won their final five matches of the second edition in 2009 and then the first eight of the following season. That streak had ended with a goalless draw against Sheikh Russel KC.

In today's match, Mohammedan's Nigerian recruit Emmanuel Sunday struck the all-important goal in the 17th minute after being set up by Ghanaian forward Boateng Ernest.

With the fifth consecutive victory, Mohammedan consolidated their lead in the 10-team table with 15 points, six more than joint-second Rahmatganj MFS and Abahani, who have played one game less than Mohammedan's five.

At the Kings arena, Brothers Union stunned Kings by taking the lead in the 34th minute when Senegalese forward Cheikh Sene chested down a cross from Kaushik Barua inside the box and turned around to hammer a powerful drive past goalkeeper Mehedi Hasan Srabon.

Brothers goalkeeper Ashraful Islam then frustrated Kings forwards by thwarting their repeated efforts. Kings finally found a way to beat Ashraful in the penultimate minute of the eight-minute stoppage time of the second half as a close-range header from substitute Mojibur Rahman Jonny found the back of the net.

The draw saw Brothers Union maintain their fourth position in the table with eight points from five matches. Kings are now fifth in the table with seven points from five matches, lagging eight points behind Mohammedan in the title race.

At Shaheed Jabbar Stadium in Gazipur, Dhaka Wanderers Club tasted its first victory with a 1-0 win over Chittagong Abahani.

Shakil Ali struck the decisive goal in the 42nd minute with an angular shot from the right side after Mohammad Shawon provided the pass from the left.

Dhaka Wanderers Club raised their tally to four from five matches to stay in the eighth position while Ctg Abahani sit at the bottom with five defeats in a row.
