Pragmatic Haaland answers ‘difficult’ Messi-Ronaldo question, prefers treble over World Cup
Manchester City goal-machine Erling Haaland said he prefers to possess Cristiano Ronaldo's right foot over Lionel Messi's left in order to achieve a more balanced prowess.
Haaland, who shattered the Premier League's single-season goal record this season and scored 52 scored in all competitions so far, was adjudged Men's Footballer of the Year by Footballers Writers' Association (FWA) earlier this month and the Norwegian received the award on Thursday at the Landmark Hotel in London.
During the FWA Awards Dinner event, Haaland was asked several "this or that" questions in an interview, where he had to pick a favourite from two options.
Asked to choose between "Ronaldo's right foot vs Messi's left foot", Haaland replied: "Difficult. Since I have an okay left foot, I would prefer to take Cristiano's right foot."
The 22-year-old has taken the Premier League by storm since arriving from Borussia Dortmund last year in a USD 63 million deal that already looks a bargain. Having secured the Premier League title in his debut season, Haaland has his sights on securing a treble for City, who are looking to win the Champions League for the first time.
In the interview, Haaland also chose English Premier League (PL) title win over German Bundesliga but placed the Champions League above PL. Moreover, he was also asked to pick between a World Cup win and treble with City.
"Winning the World Cup with Norway would be the biggest thing, but it is not so realistic. So I would go with the treble," Haaland replied.
City face Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley on June 3 before heading to Istanbul to meet Inter Milan in the Champions League final seven days later.
