‘Watching Messi is like watching Michael Jordan’
Major League Soccer team FC Dallas' owner Dan Hunt was in awe of Inter Miami's Lionel Messi after his side lost to Messi's heroics as Miami advanced to the Leagues Cup quarterfinals on Sunday.
Messi scored twice and assisted Benjamin Cremaschi's goal for Miami, which had gone winless in 11 league matches prior to the Argentine World Cup winner's arrival last month. All four of Messi's appearances with Inter Miami have come in the Leagues Cup, a tournament that pits all MLS and Liga MX teams against each other. The regular season will resume in two weeks.
His impact, very naturally, hasn't gone unnoticed and has left Hunt amazed. Speaking to Bloomberg before the game, Hunt compared Messi to the man regarded by many as the greatest to ever touch a basketball.
Hunt said that he couldn't miss this match for the world - because to him, watching Messi perform on the pitch: 'It's like watching Michael Jordan.'
He added, 'You're looking at one of the two greatest players of all time in that experience. So yeah, this is a great moment for FC Dallas.'
