Neymar is overrated, says Bayern president
While many have expressed opinion that PSG star Neymar will become the top player of the world once Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have called time on their careers, it is not an opinion shared by Bayern Munich chief Uli Hoeness.
The German team were reportedly interested in the Brazilian when he was at Santos but were thwarted by the asking price. Hoeness attended a Christmas party, arranged by a Bayern Munich fan club and the chief suggested that the 222 million euro transfer fee that PSG paid for the Brazilian was something Bayern could not afford.
While the Bayern chief felt that Neymar is overrated, he however mentioned his admiration for Kylian Mbappe.
"We can not invest 222 million in Neymar, who does not seem so good,” Hoeness said.
"We cannot invest figures like that, not even 180m for Mbappe, who I think is very good."
Bayern chief admitted that they were interested in the Brazilian during Pep Guardiola’s tenure as coach but dismissed the idea due to the costs involved.
"We have to find our own way in this shark pit in which we move when talking about transfers for 100 and 200 million euros, we want to be at the top but not at just any price," Hoeness concluded.
