Rakitic flees holiday home
Croatia and Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic has cut short his summer holiday after his villa on a Croatian island was attacked, local media reported Saturday.
Rakitic and his family decided to leave the island of Ugljan after an unknown attacker threw a stone and broke a window of the house where they were spending the holiday following Croatia's elimination from Euro 2016, the Vecernji list daily reported.
"We tried to persuade him to stay, but... they decided to leave definitively," local official Karlo Novoselic told the newspaper.
A police spokesman confirmed the attack, telling AFP that one window was broken at the house, but added that "for the time being police are not linking the incident with Rakitic."
Rakitic, 28, played a key role in some attractive Croatia performances at Euro 2016 but they were eliminated at the last-16 stage by Portugal in a match that went to extra-time.
