Ronaldo could face twelve game ban, media reports

In a mad spell of 25 minutes, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo experienced two very differing emotional extremes of football.

The joy of scoring against his biggest rival infront of their home crowd was surmounted by the disgrace of a red card that saw Ronaldo push the referee in frustration.

The Portugese forward came onto the pitch in the 58th minute and then saw his rival Lionel messi score from the penalty spot in the 77th minute.

A lapse from Barcelona saw Madrid break forward with Isco who released Cristiano down the left – one-on-one with Gerard Pique. The forward unleashed a brilliant curling shot from outside the box past Ter Stegen to send Real Madrid into the lead just three minutes after Barcelona had equalized.

In his wild celebrations, Ronaldo took off his shirt and was cautioned by the Referee with an yellow card.

Only two minutes later Ronaldo was carded again for diving by referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea. As a result Ronaldo was given the marching order in the 82nd minute and he made the mistake of pushing the referee in frustration.

“After being shown the red card, the player pushed me gently to show his dissent,” De Burgos wrote in the document that covers all the incidents that occurred in the match, reported Barcelona based Sport.

Madrid based Marca report reveals that Article 96 of the Spanish FA's rulebook notes - a push on an official can earn anything from a four-game ban to twelve game ban.

"Maybe there's no penalty, but to show a card [for alleged diving] was a little harsh.

"However, we cannot change that, even if we'll try to have him available for Wednesday.” Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane said after the game.
