What they said
I was given the chance to come to this amazing club, and then to coach it. I have a phenomenal team and great players who are also talented, and it was together we achieved what we did tonight [Saturday]. I've won the Champions League as a player, as an assistant and now as a head coach. I'm so proud to be part of this great club. It's the club of my life, the one that made me who I am. Carlo Ancelotti wanted me to experience this feeling, as the number one coach, and he was right. I'm so happy.
-- ZINEDINE ZIDANE
I think I could start thinking about my future. It puts a lot of years on you. Congratulations to Real Madrid -- once again they were superior to us, this time on penalties. What really hurts me is to see the hurt of the people who've paid to come here -- I feel a bit responsible that I wasn't able to give them what they wanted. That's what really hurts. I feel responsible for the fans who have bought their tickets.
-- DIEGO SIMEONE
An unbelievable night, to win my third Champions League on penalties again, to be the top scorer in the competition again, I'm so proud. We work hard during the season to win this amazing trophy, so I'm so proud of my teammates, of the fans, families, of the coach. It's my second year I scored more than 15 goals. The person with the season scoring record in this competition is me, with 17 goals [in 2014]. And this year 16; or 17 with the penalty. What more can I ask for ?
-- CRISTIANO RONALDO
Zizou [Zidane] is very humble but determined. His arrival was really important for us because he has a great relationship with the players. We'll be celebrating this with him! With Rafael we had some good times, but when Zizou came the dressing room was more unified. Zidane brought a positive attitude with him.
-- SERGIO RAMOS
Everyone knows I want Cristiano to stay here all his life. He is one of the pillars of the team and of the history of the club. We have made a new era with him.
-- FLORENTINO PEREZ
The most important thing is being there, and I'm convinced that this team will be back to win the Champions League because we deserve it. We have to be proud of this team. As of tomorrow, we'll keep on working. This is the beautiful and cruel side of football.
-- GABI
It's a big blow, but we'll pick ourselves up. We're really proud of what we've done this year. The effort has been really impressive, but we couldn't top it off with a victory. That's football and things go on. This is a winning group of players. I'm so proud of my team-mates; we're going to keep fighting for our goals, the club's goals, and those we dream about.
