Last over thriller sees Daily Star through

The Daily Star crossed another hurdle in their mission to lift the Summit-DRU Media Cup Cricket Tournament trophy when they came out in front by six runs against NTV in a last-over thriller at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium today.

Batting first, The Daily Star posted a challenging score of 79 runs in six overs. Fazlur Rahman made amends for his below-par show in the last match with a blistering knock of 41. Tuhin Subhra Adhikary’s unbeaten cameo of 24 and Wasim Bin Habib’s 11 contributed to their team’s cause and gave NTV a difficult target to chase on the astro-turf.

In reply, NTV made a good fist of the chase and took the game right down to the wire. With nine runs needed in the last over, Pankag Karmakar was given the ball by his captain Hasan Jahid Tusher. Pankag buoyed by the responsibility rose to the occasion and denied NTV with his superb bowling. He just gave away three runs, and his two overs, four wickets for only 10 runs made the difference in this humdinger of a match.

Pankaj was adjudged the man-of-the-match for his match-winning performance, and he was pleased to see his team peaking at the right time before the crucial matches ahead.

The Summit-DRU Media Cup Cricket tournament is being held at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium in Dhaka with 48 media houses taking part.
