BHF GS aims to revive hockey with old model
The general secretary (GS) of the newly formed ad-hoc committee of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) Lt Col (rtd) Riazul Hasan said the committee would aim to replicate a model used 30 years ago to revive the sport in the country.
Riazul pointed out how the BHF would be looking to facilitate school-level hockey and harness its flourishment to bring back the glory years of the sport.
"We discussed how to go forward at our first ad-hoc committee meeting because our target is to revive the country's hockey by going back to the root of the sport, which was school-level hockey, from where it emerged some 30 years ago," Riazul said at a city hotel today.
"We have to bring back the glorious period of hockey and make students understand that hockey is a good game because everyone tends to play cricket.
"The ad-hoc committee will work as a team beyond individual interests towards a collective goal."
The BHF handed over jerseys to both men's and women's national Under-21 hockey teams ahead of the AHF Youth Asia Cup to be held in Oman.
