NSC forms five more ad-hoc committees in sports

Having dissolved the existing executive committees of five sports bodies, the National Sports Council (NSC) on Wednesday formed five new ad-hoc committees, raising the number of ad-hoc committees to 21 since the political changeover on August 5, 2024.

Five new ad-hoc committees were formed in the Bangladesh Handball Federation, Bangladesh Cycling Federation, Bangladesh Judo Federation, Bangladesh Amateur Wrestling Federation, and Bangladesh Rugby Federation, where each ad-hoc committee comprised 17 to 19 members, with former players dominating the committees in the respective federations so far.

The NSC first formed nine ad-hoc committees in bridge, tennis, squash, kabaddi, athletics, billiards, basketball, chess, and hockey in the middle of November 2024, while the local sports governing body announced another seven new ad-hoc committees in swimming, table tennis, volleyball, karate, weightlifting, bodybuilding, and fencing on January 28, 2025.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports had earlier dismissed the heads of 42 sports bodies in September last year in a quest to depoliticise the sports bodies.
