Sports organiser Tipu passes away
Rafiqul Islam Tipu, a renowned face in Bangladesh's sports community, passed away today at the Azgar Ali Hospital in Dhaka.
He was 69 years old.
He left behind his wife and a daughter and a host of well-wishers.
His namaz-e-janaza will be held at Sheikh Russel Roller Skating Complex at 5:30pm today.
The late Tipu was admitted to the Azgar Ali Hospital after suddenly falling ill on Monday. A CT scan report found blood clots in his brain, and he was under observation at the intensive care unit of the hospital. Later, he was taken to life support later on Monday before being pronounced dead at 3:03pm on Tuesday.
As a sports organiser, Tipu had been associated in various capacities with a number of sporting federations in the country. A former general secretary of Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation, Tipu was currently an executive member of Bangladesh Archery Federation.
Apart from serving the archery and table tennis federations, Tipu was associated as a member of different committees in different national and international events for the last four decades.
