Muktijoddha, Brothers win

Muktijoddha Sangsad took sweet revenge for their first-leg defeat against Rahmatganj MFS in the JB Bangladesh Premier League after handing the Old Dhaka outfit a 2-0 defeat in the second meeting at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.

Simon Ezeodika put Muktijoddha ahead in the 32nd minute with a powerful drive from inside the box, which Rahmatganj midfielder Mehbub Hasan Nayan deflected into his own net while attempting to clear the ball from the goal-line.

As the second-half began, Muktijoddha almost immediately doubled the margin to put the game beyond Rahmatganj's reach.

Shafiqul Islam found the back of the net with a superb effort from a Javed Khan cross one minute into the second half. An eighth win sees Muktijoddha climb to fourth position from sixth with 29 points from 20 outings while Rahmatganj slipped to sixth with 27 points from 20 matches.

In the day's other match, Brothers Union defeated Uttar Baridhara Club 2-1. Mannaf Rabbi broke the deadlock on the hour-mark by heading in a Kawsar Rabbi free-kick, but Brother hit back 10 minutes later as Yonta Michael headed back into his own net.

Augustin Walson sealed Brothers' sixth win tapping in a Mannaf Rabbi pass three minutes from time. Brothers are now in fifth position with 27 points while Uttar Baridhara are second from bottom with 17 points.
