NSC declares seven new ad-hoc committees
The National Sports Council (NSC) has formed new ad-hoc committees for seven sports federations today. The seven sports federations are: Swimming, table tennis, volleyball, karate, weightlifting, bodybuilding and fencing.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports had earlier dismissed the heads of 42 sports bodies in last year's September and named ad-hoc committees for nine sports bodies on November 14.
Of the seven new ad-hoc committees for federations, swimming and karate saw former general secretaries Mahbubur Rahman Shahin and Moazzem Hossain respectively return in the key post while table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting and bodybuilding saw former players getting appointed as the general secretaries.
The committees feature 17 to 19 members with predominantly former athletes, businessmen, representatives from services teams, BKSP and service holders while organisers have mostly been overlooked in the bodies.
The NSC statement said that the NSC dissolved these sports federation committees with its designated power under article 18 of NSC Law 2018 as well as replaced them by the ad-hoc committees.
However, the circular did not mention any timeline for the ad-hoc committees to hold the elections.
