Open-top bus getting ready for SAFF champion women's team
"It is fine even if we do not stand with the champions' trophy on the open-top bus, I want to win it for the people who have helped us touch the green grass, leaving aside the bitter comments of the society."
Sanjida Akhter, a player of the Bangladesh team who clinched their maiden SAFF Women's Championship title last night, posted this status on her Facebook profile before the match against Nepal.
Since winning, there has been a demand from various quarters, starting from social media, to welcome the women's champion team from the airport on an open-top bus.
In response, Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC), the government's transport agency, is arranging an open-top bus to welcome the winning tigresses back home.
BRTC Chairman Tajul Islam while confirming the matter to The Daily Star, said, "The top of a BRTC double-decker bus has been removed to welcome the women's football team. Work is also underway to remove the seats. The bus will be ready by tonight."
"As soon as the decision came from the government, we started working on it at our Motijheel depot," he said.
The top of a double-decker bus at BRTC's Motijheel depot began to be dismantled this morning. Stickers will also be placed on the bus.
