Football lovers in areas under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will get the chance to see the world's greatest sporting festival, the FIFA World Cup 2022, on giant screens in open spaces.

The DNCC will screen all matches of the showpiece event set to begin this night with the match between hosts Qatar and Ecuador.

After a four-year wait, the best 32 football teams will participate in the world cup finals to determine who will lift the trophy on December 18.

Mukbul Hossain, DNCC spokesperson and public relations officer, said they will set up giant screen in 10 regions of the corporation.

He said DNCC officials have already set up screens at Rabindra Sarabar in Uttara, South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad, Mujib Chattar at Hatirjheel, in front of Nagar Bhaban in Gulshan, and in front of Lautola Khal in Basila.

Screens at Paris road in Mirpur, Kanchkura College field in Uttarkhan and Taltola Market of Khilgaon will be set up in a day or two.

"We want football-loving people of Dhaka to get a chance to watch matches together," Mukbul said.

He said a letter has been sent to Dhaka Metropolitan Police for maintaining security at the spots. Respective local ward councillors and regional executive officers will supervise the activities.
