FIDE Master Mehdi Hasan Parag became unbeaten champion in the Golden Sporting Club International Rating Chess Tournament after beating IM Abu Sufian Shakil in tiebreakers yesterday.

Both Parag and Shakil were tied at eight points after the final (ninth) round before Parag beat the latter in tiebreakers, held at the Muktijoddha Smirity Stadium Bhaban in Rajshahi yesterday.

Four players secured seven points each and their positions were decided also by tiebreaking system, with FM Debaraj Chatterjee, WIM Rani Hamid, Saiful Islam Chowdhury and Shahnaz Mohammad Faruk finishing in third, fourth, fifth and sixth positions respectively.
