Asia Cup influential as Bangladesh, Pakistan move down in ODI rankings
The performances of the ongoing Asia Cup have influenced ICC ODI Rankings as Bangladesh and Pakistan moved down the ladder after having failed to secure a place in the tournament's summit clash.
While Pakistan bowed out of the Asia Cup after a last-ball thriller against Sri Lanka on Thursday in the two side's final Super Four fixture, Bangladesh, on the other hand, were eliminated from the tournament with a game in hand.
As a consequence, Sri Lanka (93 rating point) gathered just enough points to swap position with Bangladesh (92) in occupying the seventh spot. Meanwhile, India's (117) unbeaten run in the Asia Cup put them marginally ahead of Pakistan (116) and into the second position, as per ICC's latest rankings.
India could claim the top spot if they win the Asia Cup and current toppers Australia go on to lose their upcoming two ODIs against South Africa. Nevertheless, India and Australia are slated to square off in an ODI series ahead of the World Cup.
Whereas Pakistan -- who were ranked No. 1 prior to the Asia Cup -- will not get a chance to improve their rankings since they have no ODI matches in schedule before the much-awaited event.
